The Client
In 2020 Heather Davies founded Back Porch Pots to create a responsible alternative to single use garden pots. Back Porch Pots was born out of frustration over the staggering amount of waste in the gardening/nursery industries. Hundreds of millions of single-use, black plastic pots are sold by nurseries and garden centers annually, the vast majority of which end up in landfills.
The Challenge
For years, Heather scoured the internet every gardening season, searching to no avail for reusable and sustainable starter pots. The challenge was to create a reusable starter pot out of a non-breakable and reusable material, that was both nonreactive/inert and durable for gardening work.
The Solution
- Silicone was chosen as the right material for the application.
- Design language was developed for a branded look over several size models.
- Design For Manufacture – Kickr Design coordinated contract manufacturing and CAD documentation.
The Results
Heather obtained a better understanding of the contract manufacturing and general manufacturing processes with Kickr Design’s guidance. She launched Back Porch Pots in the fall of 2021 with a successful Kickstarter campaign, and are excited to finally bring Back Porch Pots to market.
